Mae E. Lauer Display House
Begonias and Fuchsias
In summer and early fall, the Mae E. Lauer Display House is filled to the rafters with begonias and fuchsias. Named for one of the Gardens' long-time volunteers, it houses one of the world's best shows of tuberous begonias and fuchsias. Among the varieties are upright growing and hanging baskets of begonias in brilliant colors, offset by fuchsia standards of mixed purple, lavender, crimson, pink, fuchsia, and white.
The floral show peaks in late summer and fall; adding to the visual experience are the darting hummingbirds who are drawn to the fuchsia nectar as a primary source of their food.
