MENDOCINO COAST BOTANICAL GARDENS

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens is a unique natural treasure located on the bluffs of Northern California. Since the 1960s, the Gardens has cultivated a wide array of plants that are both sustainable and beautiful. As a nonprofit botanical garden, our mission is to engage and enrich lives by displaying and conserving plants in harmony with our Northern California coastal ecosystems and to preserve public access to the coast.

Visiting the Gardens

The mild climate makes it a garden for all seasons with manicured gardens, a dense coastal pine forest, fern-covered canyons, rhododendrons, dahlias, begonias, magnolias, conifers, heathers, and more.

Events

The Gardens brings the community together through vibrant festivals, cherished holiday traditions, plant sales, and special gatherings all year long.

This month, we are celebrating the Noyo Harbor Inn, a longtime Fort Bragg favorite and proud Rhododendron Member of the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens! With its waterfront accommodations, dining, and coastal charm, Noyo Harbor Inn is part of what makes our community so special.

⚓️ A bit about @noyoharborinn
Noyo Harbor Inn sits on the bluff above Noyo Harbor in Fort Bragg, and is the only luxury hotel in town. Rooms look out over the river, the mooring basin, and the fishing boats still come and go below. Twelve miles of Mendocino Coast beaches are a short drive away. Rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard, or get out on a boat to go fishing or whale watching; you can walk down to the harbor on our private path.

HarborView Bistro & Bar is open Wednesday through Monday from 9 am, with indoor and outdoor seating over the water. The menu changes with the seasons. Fish comes in from the harbor, vegetables come from nearby farms, and we highlight our local producers wherever possible.

We’re serious about whiskey. With more than 130 bottles, ours is the largest selection on the Mendocino Coast, from everyday sippers to old and rare, with bourbon, Scotch, and a few surprises from Taiwan and India. Not sure where to start? Our flights are built around a theme or region, four pours each, and we’re happy to guide you to your next favorite dram. The Whiskey Lover’s Package adds tastings and a discount for purchased whiskey while you’re with us.

Our cigar lounge is tucked into a gazebo overlooking the harbor, with a firepit and covered seating. It’s the first in Mendocino County, and it’s a good place to end the evening.

Seasonal cocktails with our own hand-crafted bitters, massage treatments, and pet-friendly rooms round things out. Come find out why both locals and visitors keep coming back.

Meet Jinny Lu, the Ukiah rescue pug who captured hearts across the country after winning the 2026 World’s Ugliest Dog Contest! 🏆

With her signature floppy tongue, pearl necklace, and big personality, Jinny Lu has gone from rescue pup to national celebrity, appearing on NBC’s TODAY show and making headlines in outlets including the Los Angeles Times and San Francisco Chronicle. Not bad for a little pug with a big story to tell!

Jinny Lu’s journey began in the mountains of South Korea, where she was rescued from a difficult start. With help from Pug Rescue of Korea, she eventually found her way to California and her forever home at The Pug Hotel, a nonprofit senior pug sanctuary in Ukiah. Jinny Lu is now helping shine a spotlight on rescue animals and the organizations dedicated to caring for them.

Join us at Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens on Friday, October 23, around 11 AM to meet Jinny Lu and learn more about her story, shake a paw, and snap a pic.

While you are here, enjoy a walk through the Gardens and stop by Rhody’s Garden Café.

We are honored to share this opportunity with two wonderful local organizations, Friends of Fort Bragg Library and Mendocino Coast Children’s Fund.

100 Women Strong is a global movement of collective impact giving, with more than 350 group worldwide. Here on the Mendocino Coast, this grassroots initiative brings women together to support local nonprofits through collective giving. Here is how you can join the momentum:

COME TO THE EVENT
Join us at Eagles Hall in Fort Bragg on Thursday, October 22. Doors open at 5:30 PM for wine and snacks, with the program beginning at 6:00 PM. Attendance is free, and everyone is welcome. Know someone who loves the Gardens or believes in supporting local nonprofits? Invite them to attend and learn more about the work happening right here on the Mendocino Coast.

Your $100 makes you a voting member for this giving cycle. 100% of the money raised goes directly to local nonprofits, with no administrative fees.

CAST YOUR VOTE The three nominated nonprofits will each give a short presentation about their work and impact. After hearing from all three, voting members cast their vote. The nonprofit receiving the most votes can receive up to $10,000 in unrestricted funding.

This is a wonderful opportunity to do more than support the Gardens… you can help make the case for why our work matters to this community. We hope you will come cheer us on!

Begonias and fuchsias are still putting on a show. Dahlias are glowing in the fall light, while the heaths and heathers are set to stun. In the Vegetable Garden, there is still plenty of bounty to harvest.

Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens will be closed to the public on Saturday, September 12, for Winesong, a special event benefiting the Mendocino Coast Healthcare Foundation and rural healthcare on the Mendocino Coast.

For 41 years, Winesong has brought our community together for an important cause. While Winesong is not a Gardens event, we are proud to open our doors and provide a beautiful setting for this long-standing community fundraiser. We are honored to play a small part in its continued impact on our region.

The Gardens will be open for regular visitation on Friday, September 11, and Sunday, September 13. 🌿
