Pine Needle Basketry at Art in the Gardens
Friday and Saturday, August 5 and 6, 2022
from 10AM to 4PM with AIG 2021's Featured Artist, Carolyn Zeitler
at the MCBG Vegetable Garden
Create a basket made from long-needled Coulter pine needles. Learn how to begin to coil using just raffia and pine needles and create a unique design using four distinct stitches. During this two-day workshop, students will complete a unique and fragrant vessel and have the skills and knowledge to continue exploring this art form.
Raffia, pine needles, and darning needles are provided. Students must bring a small pair of cuticle scissors.
WORKSHOP REGISTRATION
Class size is limited to 8 participants. Registration for this workshop must be completed in advance online and includes Gardens/Art in the Gardens admission for the day. Please note, all workshop fees are non-refundable unless the workshop has been canceled or rescheduled by the Gardens.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Carolyn Zeitler graduated from San Jose State in 1976 with a degree in weaving and ceramics. Three years later she began what has become a lifelong pursuit of pine needle basketmaking. Carolyn’s basketry combines the shapes created with clay with the techniques of weaving and basketry. She has exhibited and taught for over 40 years. Her work is in collections from Paraguay to Japan. Her work can be seen at www.carolynzeitler.com.
