The Opportunity
We’re seeking an inspiring and strategic Executive Director to lead the Gardens into its next chapter—enhancing its impact, financial health, and community engagement. This is an opportunity to guide a beloved institution in one of the most scenic spots in California.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead with Vision: Shape and execute strategic plans aligned with our mission. Foster a culture of collaboration, creativity, and excellence.
- Team Leadership: Build and support a high-performing staff team and volunteers. Promote growth, inclusion, and a respectful workplace.
- Operational Oversight: Manage daily operations, facilities, and visitor services. Ensure safety, compliance, and exceptional guest experiences.
- Financial Stewardship: Develop and manage the annual budget. Ensure sustainability through sound fiscal practices.
- Fundraising & Development: Drive donor engagement, grant acquisition, sponsorships, and revenue diversification. Strengthen community partnerships and membership.
- Community Engagement: Act as the Gardens’ public voice. Build relationships with stakeholders, promote visibility, and expand outreach and educational programs.
Qualifications
Required:
- Proven record of experience in a senior leadership role, ideally in the field of horticulture, conservation, education, or public gardens
- Proven success in fundraising, donor development, and financial management
- Strong communication, strategic planning, staff leadership, and management skills
- Experience working with a Board of Directors and diverse stakeholders
Preferred:
- Background in horticulture, conservation, or environmental education
- Familiarity with California’s coastal ecosystems
- Visitor-facing operations and retail experience
- Bilingualism a plus
Compensation & Benefits
- $100,000 – $120,000 annual salary
