INTRODUCTION
Volunteers have made the Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens all that it is today. Their dedication, cooperation, hard work, and creative energies are the heartbeat of the organization. From top-level policy decisions to pulling weeds, volunteers are involved in every aspect of the Gardens. We invite you to become a part of our family of volunteers — over 100 strong — and help the Gardens continue to thrive.
MONTHLY GROUPS
Several volunteer groups are active on the grounds throughout the year. Groups operate on a drop-in basis and you're always welcome to join us!
Seed Collection Group — First and Third Wednesdays
Come at 9:30 am to gather and package seeds and learn about seed propagation.
Plant Propagation Group — Every Wednesday and Saturday
Arrive at 9:00 am to learn about the propagation of various plant species.
General Gardening Day — Every Monday and Tuesday Afternoon
From 1:00 to 3:30 pm (weather permitting), volunteers assist our gardeners with a variety of tasks. It's a fun way to learn good gardening skills from our experienced staff. Occasional field trips.
Vegetable Gardening — Every Saturday and Tuesday
Meet us at 10:00 am in the Herb and Vegetable Garden.
OTHER OPPORTUNITIES
Education — The Gardens is expanding the exisiting education programs to include grade school science curriculum, professional speakers, adult education, and additional garden-oriented workshops. As programs develop, the need for volunteer participation increases. Our current needs include: docents, storytellers, instructors, and speakers.
New Projects — We have many varied projects in the works: creating and updating postal and email lists, mapping the gardens, keeping plant records, building a retail nursery sales staff, restoring the farmhouse, fencing the east end of the Gardens, and extending the existing power lines.
Ongoing Projects & Special Events — We always need docents, storytellers, cashiers, library helpers, data entry support, newsletter helpers, brochure and poster distribution helpers, and support with our special fundraising event, Art in the Gardens.
